Personal Training and Trauma Informed Personal Training (TIPT)

Personal Training

What is TIPT?

While most personal training sessions are outcome focused, TIPT is process focused - meaning rather than a longer term physical or aesthetic goal, our work is to help facilitate safe connection with the body through a practice called embodied movement.

My work takes a cooperative approach, acknowledging that I am not the expert on your body, you are; and we are working and learning together.

I practice from a trauma-informed lens which considers the impact that trauma has on the body and our experience with movement.

Working with me will likely feel different from what you’re used to, because I see this work as a partnership; which means that we will work together to better understand what kind of movement is helpful to your body at different times.

What can I expect?

You can expect a formal check in at the beginning of each session before we begin where we determine:

  • Somatic Distress Levels (a scale of 1-5 similar to Effort, but based on how you feel in your body and mind)

  • Agreements - 3 agreements from the beginning that are just for our sessions, example: I am in charge of my own body; I am doing this for myself and not anyone else;

  • A personalized training plan adapting to your needs, energy-levels, and overall fitness goals

  • A small private training space and lots of 1 on 1 support

  • Fun!

I know your workouts will likely not look the same week to week  - and that’s part of the process.

My goal is to make you feel good and empowered, accomplished, challenged, and safe being here as you are.

Why offer TIPT?

I started my career as a social worker and community organizer in 2013 after graduating university with my BSW.

After about 6 years in that field, I took what I thought would be a small detour into personal training and group fitness instruction. I noticed that many of my clients would often share personal details about their lives, and that my approach to coaching soon started to integrate many of the values and skills I held from my previous career.

In 2023 I decided to formally join my two passions, and become a certified Trauma Informed Personal Trainer. I often say this certification “filled in the blanks” of my knowledge, and provided me with context for certain ways we react to movement and physical stress.
